1969-70 Chicago Black Hawks

Bobby Hull - General Athletic Durene knit, size 48.  Gunzo's tag in collar and General Athletic size tag below it.  General Athletic tag in hem.

This is a rare fresh find, never before seen in the hobby.  The consignor of this jersey used to work at the old Met Stadium  home of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings during the years of 69-70 and 70-71. He used to go over to the Met Center and get his skates sharpened and one day when the Blackhawks were in town he procured it from the Blackhawks locker room.  He has kept in ever since in a card board box.  Truly one of the most amazing finds in the hobby to date.

The Back number 9 - Clearly you can see sweat stains, and also a couple of light marks.

The hem - the hem shows general sweat stains from Bobby wiping his face with the bottom of his jersey.  The back side of the hem shows the regular game use from playing in the NHL. 70Hullhem2.JPG (605382 bytes)70Hullhem3.JPG (605055 bytes)70Hullh1.JPG (606938 bytes)
The inside - the inside shows small cotton pilling which is from the cotton undergarments that where worn for this time period.  70Hullinside1.JPG (599380 bytes)70Hullinside2.JPG (608211 bytes)70Hullinside3.JPG (613412 bytes)
Numbers and patch's - You can see the classic chain stitch pattern on the Tomahawk handles how they would always go right tomahawk stitch over the left.  Only Gunzo's had this stitch pattern.  The #9's had the reinforced stitching through the 9.  Also the placement which is just above the stripe is correct. 70Hullpatch.JPG (609890 bytes)70Hullwear.JPG (603159 bytes)
Sleeve use - On the right sleeve you can see some light blood stains, a couple of light burns and some stick marks. There is a repair on the cuff end, the seem of thread had burst open started to unfold, it was re-sewn with red thread. On the left sleeve, there is a dasher transfer and an outline of sweat stains which would occur from a long cuff hockey glove.  70Hulls.JPG (611232 bytes)70Hulls1.JPG (592013 bytes)70Hulls2.JPG (589325 bytes)
Tagging -  Gunzo's in Berwyn had a fire in 1970 which gutted much of the interior. That summer, Wally moved to the River Forest location. This Gunzo's tag was used only in that last year at Berwyn, 69-70. Previous Berwyn tags looked very different; they read "Gunzo's  Sports Center" and had a pair of skates. Look at the first Hawks jersey on dropthepucks site; it has the earlier tag. So, this can only be from that last year in Berwyn. The Tags would have started to read "River Forest" in mid-1970. Any 70-71 sweater should have the River Forest tag. 70Hulltag.JPG (589844 bytes)70Hulltag1.JPG (582414 bytes)
Logo - The logo's for the year 69-70 measured 1 1/4" from the neck line, this one also measures exactly.  Each hawks logo was hand made and sewn.  Pretty much every logo has its own distinct characteristics.  This one has the eye lid attached to the eyebrow thread.  Also the golden braids in the hair are distinctive.  The best part about this logo is that it has blood on it and also below the crest on the jersey there is also blood.  Awesome jersey, just awesome.
